‘Maharaja’, whose audio was launched a few days back in the city, stars Anjali in the lead role. The actress, who has hit a purple patch after the super-duper hit of last year’s Vasanthabalan-directed ‘Angaadi Theru’, is looking for another elusive hit to consolidate her status in Kollywood.
She had a couple of films releasing last year after ‘Angaadi Theru’ but none of them did any worthwhile business at the box-office. Anjali, though, has quite a good number ofprojects on hand including ‘Thambi Vettethi Sundaram’ opposite Karan and another significant role in actor Ajit’s upcoming landmark 50th film ‘Mangkatha’.
Anjali is said to have gone ‘ultra-glamourous’ for her role in ‘Maharaja’, said to be a romantic comedy. Anjali signed up the project more than three years ago, much before she earned the tag of a substantial actress with films like ‘Angaadi Theru’. After the film’s success, films like ‘Maharaja’ got new lease of life and the shooting was completed in a hurry to cash in on her popularity.
Anjali, who was a bit apprehensive in going ultra-glamourous especially after her homely looks in the hit film ‘Angaadi Theru’, had no other option but to carry out as she had agreed to do so while taking up the offer a few years back.
The film, directed by Venkatesh known for his commercial flicks, has Nasser in a prominent role.
Anjali has made a mark for herself doing versatile roles within a short span of time. Her Angadi Theru propelled her to stardom. Now the young actress is pinning all her hopes on her forthcoming venture Maharaja.
In Maharaja, Anjali has combined performance with glamour. She plays ladylove to Sathya. Says Anjali, ‘ an actress has to do versatile roles. In films like Kattradhu Thamizh and Angadi Theru, I played off-beat roles. It brought me encomiums.’
Anjali further adds, ‘I am pleasantly surprised with my role in Maharaja. All credit should go to director Manohar. I have a meaty role to do in the movie. It gives great privilege to do such characters’
The film narrates the story of an ordinary government employee, played by Nasser, who is suddenly exposed to a whopping salary equal to what IT guys draw these days. The star cast also includes Sathya and Anitha. The audio of the movie was released recently and the songs are already topping the charts.
