Film producers to protest against Endhiran

A protest and a `dharna` has been organised by the Kannada film producers association on Wednesday morning in front of the offices of the KFCC to protest against the irregularities committed by the distributors and theatre owners distributing and screening non-Kannada films.

Sources from the Kannada film producers association say that the distributors and theatre owners are violating the norms of the Karnataka film chamber and are facilitating the release of non Kannada films in more number of theatres than stipulated. The Kannada film producers have been particularly unhappy about the way Rajinikanth’s film Endhiran was released grossly violating the resolutions passed in the film chamber’s meeting just two days prior to the release of the film.

Meanwhile, sources from the Kannada film producers association have also revealed that the association may ask its members who are in the executive committee of the film chamber to resign en masse from the film chamber so as to pressurise the chamber to strictly take action against erring distributors and impose a heavy penalty on them. This includes the distributors of Rajinikanth’s Endhiran.

The Kannada film producers are worked up because already more than fifty theatres in Karnataka are screening Endhiran and distributors of two other big Telugu films Mahesh Khaleeja and Brindavanam may also violate the film chamber’s regulatory stipulation which limits the number of theatres to just twenty four theatres in the state.

Two big films Jackie starring Puneet Raj Kumar and Kichcha Huchcha starring Sudeep are slated for release on October 15 which will be followed by another big budget film Veera Parampare directed by S.Narayan starring Sudeep, Ambareesh and Aindrita Ray. Hugely awaited films like Ganesh-Priyamani starrer Eno Onthara and Upendra directed Super are slated for release within a month from now. The Kannada film producers and distributors are worried that finally they may have to encounter problems while releasing Kannada films in the next two months. They want the distributors of two big Telugu films releasing in the next two weeks and the two big budgeted Tamil films to be released during the Deepavali to strictly follow the film chamber’s stipulation with regard to simultaneous release of non-Kannada films.
