Kerala Onam Box-Office – September 12 to 18

Sringaravelan posters

Dileep`s Sringaravelan is the only Onam release which is rocking the Kerala Box-Office. Out of the five Onam releases – Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus (September 12), D-Company (Sep 13), Sringaravelan (Sep 14), North 24 Kaatham (Sep 15) and Ezhamathe Varavu (Sep 15), only Dileep`s film is a hit!

Sringaravelan released in 91 screens across Kerala on Saturday (Sep 14) and took a decent opening and after Thiru Onam day it became bigger as family audiences took over. In five days the film has grossed an amazing Rs 4. 92, which is phenomenal by any yardstick.

Mammootty`s Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus carries good reports and is the number two. It is OK in traditional Christian belt of Travancore and Kochi, but below average in Malabar where the Christian theme of the film is not working.

The big surprise is that the earlier hits Kunchacko Boban`s Pulipullikkalum Aatumkuttiyum and Prithviraj`s Memories are still doing well in main stations and has opened very well in smaller stations for Onam.

The best single screen in Kerala, Kottayam Anand which opened with D-Company on Friday stopped screening the film from Monday (Thiru Onam day) and replaced it with two shows each of Pulipullikkalum Aatumkuttiyum and Memories!

At number three is Lal Jose directed Pulipullikkalum Aatumkuttiyum which continues to be lapped up by family audiences. At Ernakulam Shenoys on Tuesday (Moonam Onam) the film has netted Rs 65,000 in its 40th day!

In the fourth place is Fahadh Faasil`s critically acclaimed new generation comedy North 24 Kaatham, which due to bad release date just did not take off. A film like this should not have released on a festival date. It is doing best in Ernakulam multiplexes.

In the fifth place is Prithviraj`s Memories, which is holding on well in main and small centres. The other two Onam releases D-Company and Ezhamathe Varavu are total washouts at the box-office.
