Artists stand close to God, says Mammootty

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actor Mammootty on Thursday said that artists stand close to God. He was inaugurating the four-day cultural extravaganza ‘Kalanjali’ conducted by the Santhigiri Ashram at Pothencode near here in connection with the dedication of the marble Parnasala building.

Mammootty said art is a part of culture which we have been following through ages and claims our own. Art and artist do not attain perfection even though both stand beside God. God alone has attained perfection, he said.

Mammootty, who was welcomed by the representatives of the Ashram, visited the Parnasala at the Spirtual Zone.

The cultural performances took off with a Carnatic music concert by Dr. K.J.Yesudas.

One of the highlights of the festival is Sangamam, an ensemble featuring 350 classical artistes directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy.
