Music : Thaman
Cast : Siddharth, Amala Paul, Arjun, Vignesh

Debutant director Balaji Mohan’s Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi (KSY) is a 2 hour enjoyable romantic ride made out of his 10 minute short film. The film works largely due to its fresh script which dwells on the magic of love and its illusions.

The one line story based on love and its many forms holds the film together. Balaji has laced humour into script, thrown in a couple of really funny scenes, and largely helped by the crackling chemistry of Siddharth and Amala along with a cast of newcomers who play their roles well.

The story line is simple and straightforward. Arun (Siddharth) falls for his college friend Parvathi (Amala Paul) who is trying to reconcile herself to the fact that her parents are heading for a messy divorce. Both the lovers have a different perspective towards love and soon they split.

The director wants to say that there is no made for each other couple as other minor love stories and relationships are also woven into the plot. The message is beautifully conveyed through the script that we come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

KSY is light hearted and funny aided by some smart writing. Scenes are woven into the film to make the humour and message to come out strongly. The scene where a cascading waterfall is compared to a womans emotional secret weapon tears is apt.

The chemistry between Siddharth and Amala crackle and the supporting cast of newcomers is what makes the film work. Technically the film is fantastic Nirav Shah has not used any camera gimmickry but helped the story to move forward, Sureshs editing is racy and crisp. Thamans music enhances the story telling.

On the downside the film slackens a bit in the second half. But Balajis Smart writing and quirky presentation about boys, girls, love and heartache is worth a look.
