Late director Bharathan’s son Siddhartha, who is currently remaking his father’s remarkable film Nidhra (1981) as Suhruth, told a news conference that Suhruth will not be an exact remake.
“It is an adaptation of the original film, or rather a reinterpretation. It would be more like old wine in new bottle,” he said. The story would be changed to suit changed times and social mores, he added.
Bharathan’s wife K.P.A.C. Lalitha, who acted in Nidhra, would be donning a role in the remake too. Siddhartha said he was proud to cast his own mother, who acted in the original version. Reema Kallingal, who played a role in Neelathamara, will be the heroine in Suhruth. Jayesh Kuttamath is the producer. The shoot will begin on January 5.
