Actress-model Swetha Menon has condemned the Kerala goverment’s decision to ban cinematic dance in all government, aided and unaided schools across Kerala. “Why should dancing to the tune of film songs be prohibited?” she asked.
Talking about an instance when she was shocked to find a five-year-old dressed up like a grown up, the actress said that the children should not be made to appear sexy in cinematic dances.
“The focus should actually be on the mode of presentation; the costume used on stage should be one befitting the participant’s age. The parents should ensure that the dress patterns of their children do not deprive the kids of their innocence.”
On Sunday, A.P.M. Mohammad Hanish, Director of Public Instructions, issued an order banning cinematic dance in all schools across the state with immediate effect.
