For the first time in Malayalam film industry a “John Doe order” has been issued against internet piracy. The order was issued as a precaution following the DVD release of Dulquer Salmaan’s Ustad Hotel.
The deadly “John Doe order” has been used against piracy effectively in other countries and also for some of Bollywood movies and recently Kollywood films like Dhanush’s 3 and last week’s Suriya’s Maattrraan.
Ustad Hotel will be the first Malayalam film to come under its cover.
Actor and producer Prakash Bare, who has been spearheading the anti-piracy in Malayalam films said : “ John Doe applies to all those websites which allow their users to download stream films without proper licence from the film’s copyright owner, and also to ISPs which make their platform available to their customers to download films without proper licence. Whether such an order has been issued or not, action will be taken against offenders in the event of piracy.”
