UTV steps into Malayalam

UTV Motion Pictures, one among the largest film production and distribution companies which has some of the blockbuster movies in Indian industry to their credit, is foraying into Malayalam with ‘Husbands in Goa’, directed by Saji Surendran.

The last film UTV did in South India, a co-production venture, was the Vikram-starrer ‘Daivathirumagal’. It has also produced/co-produced some of the notable movies such as ‘Delhi Belly’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’, ‘Rajneeti’, ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Udaan’, ‘Peepli Live’, ‘Dev D’ and ‘Dilli 6’.

‘Husbands in Goa’ is Saji Surendran’s fifth movie and will go on floors in February next year. Right now Saji Surendran is in Pollachi all set to start his fourth movie, ‘Kunjaliyan’. This time also he has stuck to the same crew which has worked in his previous movies, including Krishna Poojappura (story and script) and Anil Nair (camera).

‘Husbands in Goa’ is about four husbands, who are unhappy with their wives. “Unlike media reports, it is not a sequel of ‘Happy Husbands’,” affirms Saji and Krishna Poojappura.

Indrajith plays a lawyer in a family court. He is married to Bhavana, a pampered sister of four brothers. Owing to her laziness, he has to do the household chores.

Jayasurya, the second husband, is a chartered accountant and Bhama, his wife, is an extremely devotional type. Asif Ali, a bank officer, is the third one of the lot, who is married to Samvritha Sunil, a highly educated woman who runs entrance coaching class. The three husbands are friends, and so are their wives.

To take a break from their boring and troublesome wives, the trio decides to go to Goa. They lie to their wives and start the trip. During the journey they meet Biju Menon, a rogue husband, who is on the verge divorcing his wife, played by Rima Kallingal. The trio soon falls for Biju Menon’s wayward lifestyle and the incidents that follow make the narrative.

Music is by M G Sreekumar.
