Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ to Clash with Ajay Devgn Directorial ‘Shivay’

Hrithik Roshan’s much-awaited period film “Mohenjo Daro” will release worldwide on 22 January 2016, just a few days before the nation celebrates Republic Day.

The announcement was made by director Ashutosh Gowariker’s production house, which has previously made super hit films “Lagaan”, “Swades” and “Jodhaa Akbar”.

Newcomer Pooja Hegde has been roped in to play the lead actress, opposite Roshan.

“We’re delighted to announce that @FilmMohenjodaro starring @iHrithik & introducing @hegdepooja will release on Jan 22,2016,” Ashutosh Gowariker Productions Pvt. Ltd. (AGPPL) tweeted.

“Mohenjo Daro” is Gowariker’s mega project and has a massive budget. The Roshan starrer is a love story set during the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. The project is slated to go on floors by October, and the first schedule of will apparently take place in South Africa.

Interestingly, Ajay Devgn’s directorial “Shivay” will also release on the same day.

Devgn, who is riding high on the success of his recent film “Singham Returns”, will reportedly also play the main character in the action packed project. “Shivay” will be shot extensively in Mumbai, and is expected to go on floors next year.

While “Shivay” is produced by Eros International, “Mohenjo Daro” is a joint venture of Disney India and AGPPL.

Now, it is to be seen who among Roshan and Devgn will rule the box office in early 2016.

The news of “Mohenjo Daro” release came after Gowariker roped in Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning costume designer April Ferry for the film.

Meanwhile, Roshan, who is currently busy with the promotions of his upcoming film “Bang Bang”, recently made it to the headlines for apparently charging ₹50 crore for the flick.

Roshan will now make it to list of the highest earning Bollywood stars, and “Mohenjo Daro” will become the most expensive film
