Sathyan Anthikad is busy in a village near Palakkad shooting for his untitled film with Mohanlal in the lead.
The film also has veteran Sheela playing Mohanlal’s mother, Padmapriya, Biju Menon, Innocent and others.
The untitled film is rumoured to be a sort of sequel to Sathyan 1989 Mohanlal-Sreenivasan classic Varavelpu.
It was a black comedy directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and written by Sreenivasan on the trade union problems plaguing Kerala. The sequel is written by Sathyan himself.
Varavelpu was a brilliant film and depicted the reality faced by NRI’s who come back to Kerala to set up their own business.
In the film Mohanlal is Murali a Gulf returnee who comes back and buys a bus to run it as a private transport service.
The movie traces how his hard earned money is lost in running a business in Kerala which is highly unionised.
He has to return back to the gulf after losing all his hard earned money forms the crux of the movie.
Now in this untitled film Sathyan has Mohanlal playing Ajayan a man who ran away from his village to the gulf due to certain problems. He comes back after years to look after his ageing mother Ammukutty Amma played by Sheela. Ajayan starts a company for producing agricultural equipment and earns his living as a farmer but certain things happen which throws his life into turmoil.
Industry sources say that Sathyan is reworking the Varavelpu script in his new untitled film and bringing in the changes that happened in Kerala’s once flourishing agrarian economy.
It will be Mohanlal’s 301st film and will release likely on October 1 for the big Gandhi Jayanthi- Pooja weekend.
