Konkona: ‘I felt like a queen!’

It’s a gem of a discussion. In a sparkling chat with the scribe tribe, Konkona Sen Sharma doesn’t waste precious time, and gets to the point swiftly.
“I’m really not much of a jewellery person,” declares Konkona. “Given a choice I’d like to wear as little of it as possible. But my mother is forever trying to get me to wear more jewellery and buy new pieces.”

In a tusser silk sari blouse ensemble, Konkona sashayed onto the ramp sporting a dazzling display of jewellery. The showstopper for the ‘Amrapali Jewels’ show at the India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) at suburban Mumbai was in fine form.

“This is the second time I’m walking the ramp, and I have to tell you that I was really nervous,” she giggles. “I agreed to do the show at once when I saw the jewellery from Amrapali, that I was asked to wear. The neckpiece that I’m wearing is around 200 years old!! I felt like a queen wearing it! But I was the most excited over wearing the ‘jhommar’. I’ve never worn one earlier, and I didn’t know when I’d get the opportunity to wear it again, and so I didn’t want to miss it for anything in this world.”

Query Konkona about the kind of traditional jewellery she would like to don and scintillate on her wedding day and the actress asserts, “I’d like to wear some of the jewellery that my grandmother wore, specially her pieces in ‘kundan’. I’ve seen them and they’re simply stunning.”
