‘Not competing with my grandfather’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shameer Khan, grandson of legendary Malayalam actor Prem Nazir, is currently shooting for his debut film “Uppukandam Brothers – Back in Action” and says he has no intention of competing with his grandfather.

Shammer told that not even in his wildest dreams did he think about doing films.

“So the question of beating my grandfather does not arise. My grandfather made his own name and I desire to make my own name. The shooting has just commenced and so far it has been a nice experience for me and I have started to like this,” said Shameer, popularly called Jr. Nazir.

Prem Nazir, who passed away in 1989, had the unique distinction of holding three Guinness World Records – for doing 107 films with actress Sheela; for playing lead role in over 700 films; and of appearing as the lead actor in all the 39 films released in 1979.

His son Shahnawaz too tried his luck in Malayalam films, but couldn’t emulate his father’s success story.

Shammer is playing one of the lead roles in a film which is being directed by veteran T.S. Suresh Babu. It also stars a string of popular actors.

After his schooling, Shameer moved to Chennai and later went to Malayasia for higher studies – he did his hotel management course from there.

“I worked for some time in Kochi. Then I decided to do a management course, for which I have now got admission in a university in New Zealand. Since I had some free time, I decided to give it a try. My father was there for the first two days at the location giving me tips,” he said.

But the young actor is having language problem because he has usually stayed outside the state and the country.

Shameer’s father Shahnawaz told IANS that Babu was after him and his son for the film.

“He had some free time till June when he is supposed to join a university in New Zealand for management course. So I asked him since he is not doing anything, why not give it a try. If the film does well, then his trip to New Zealand will have to wait,” said Shahnawaz.
