Producer S. Pavamani passed away

Popular film producer and distributor S. Pavamani passed away at a private hospital in Ernakulam on Tuesday. He was 78 and is survived by wife and two children.

Pavamani started his career as a Hindi film distributor under the banner of Sheeba Films from1959. He is the one who brought cult Hindi movies like Mere Jeevan Saathi, Aradhana, Haathi Mere Saathi and Ganga Jumna to Kerala.

In 1972, he distributed his first Malayalam movie ‘Chenda’, directed by A Vincent. Later he distributed over 100 Malayalam movies, out of which many were big hits including M.T’s Nirmalyam and I.V. Sasi’s Avalude Raavukal. Pavamani is the founder general secretary of All Kerala Distributors Association.

In 1975, Pavamani became a producer with the banner Prathap Chitra. His first film ‘Ayodhya’ was a superhit. Later, he produced films like ‘Ayiram Janmangal’, ‘Aparadhi’, ‘Vilakkum Velichavum’, ‘Ponnum Poovum’ ‘Kaliyil Alppam Karyam’ and ‘Uyarangalil’ . Mohanlal starrer Uyarangalil, released in 1984, was the last movie produced by him.
