Sudigaadu Movie Review

Movie : Sudigadu
Director : Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao
Producer : Chandrasekhar D Reddy
Cast : Allari Naresh, Monal Gajjar, Hema, Rachana Mourya

To save their child from a villain (Jayaprakash Reddy), Kamesh (Allari Naresh) and his wife (Hema) send their baby boy off to Hyderabad. Twenty five years later the boy grows up into Shiva, who can do any thing like a Telugu film hero. He becomes rich in seconds, fights like a superman, and what not. And he also falls in love with a rich girl (Monal Gujjar). Rest of the movie is how meets his estranged parents.

Sudigaadu is the first full-length spoof in Telugu cinema. Based on the Tamil super hit movie, Tamizh Padam, director Bhimaneni Srinivas Rao has weaved a story spoofing all the stock and cliched scenes that constantly appear in commercial entertainers.

The film starts off with a voice over like Rajamouli did in Eega setting the base for more parody. Some spoofs – Toda Kottudu (Slapping the thigh), public school, Naresh`s dance show in a TV reality program, orphanage scene, Naresh becoming rich just by selling newspaper, ironing clothes and other odd chores, and hero living in a hut but having all the luxuries inside the hut – are really praise worthy.

First half of the film that spoofs mainly Mahesh Babu, NTR and Ram Charan movies is interesting and has good pace. Post the interval the movie goes down the spiral and spoofs also dry out. For a spoof movie, that hardly has any coherent script, the run time of 139 minutes seems a bit too long. A crispier film should have made a lot difference to the entertainment factor.

The other problem with the movie is that it goes overboard after some point. And writing also lacks consistency.

Allari Naresh has matured a lot. He has always been good at comic timing but in this film he does it effectively. He shoulders the movie. He even imitate the dance style of our superstars.

Monal Gajjar does not have much to do except be a glam prop. As aged cool dudes M S Narayana, Kondavalasa have provided good laughs. Hema as wife of senior Allari Naresh is okay. Brahmi has limited role. Jayaprakash Reddy, Shajayi Shinde, Kovali Sarala, Fish Venkat and Srinivas Reddy are good in their roles.

Of the songs composed by Sri Vasanth, `Jara Jara` and `Pinky Ponky` are good. Cinematography is neat. For a comedy movie, the film has pretty good rich production values. Raghu Kulakarni has erected good sets in the songs.

Dialogues are neat and entertaining. Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao succeeds in making a decent comedy entertainer.

Sudigaadu as the first full-length spoof film in Telugu provides pretty entertainment. It also has some LOL moments but by the start of second half of the movie, it runs out of the steam and the writing is incoherent. But again, as the film is just a parody, perhaps one should not expect much other than the time-pass. Oh, sure it does deliver in that department.
