3 Idiots, Amitabh win big at the 57th National Awards

The 57th National Awards have been announced, and acclaimed director Ramesh Sippy of Sholay revealed the winners.
Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots walked away with the honour of Best Popular Film. The hit film, starring Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, also won the award for Best Lyrics, courtesy Swanandh Kirkire.

Paa has won Amitabh Bachchan the Rajat Kamal for Best Actor. This is the third time he’s being awarded the national Award. Arundhati Nag bagged the Best Supporting Actress for her role as the grandmother of progeria-struck Big B in the same film.

The exceptional makeup in Paa also bagged an honour.

Farook Sheikh won the Rajat Kamal for Best Supporting Actor for Lahore. The movie that revolves around the sport of kickboxing, and sportsmanship shared by Pakistan and India, also won the Best Debut Director award for Sanjay Puran Singh.

The Swarna Kamal for Best Director went to Rituparno Ghosh for Abhomaan. The film also won Ananya Chatterjee the Best Actress Award.

The award for Best Music went to Anurag Kashyap’s radical retelling of Devdas in Dev.D. The hit tunes were composed by Amit Trivedi, who bagged the Best Music Director Award.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s critically acclaimed film Delhi 6 won the Rajat Kamal for National Integration. It also won the Best Production Design for Sameer Chanda.

Shyam Benegal’s Well Done Abba, starring Boman Irani and Minnisha Lamba, won the award for Best Film portraying social issues.
