Jyothirmayi waiting for her ‘big’ break

Actress Jyothirmayi, referred as ‘Jo’, debuted as Sundar C’s heroine in the film ‘Thalainagaram’ a few years back. Jo’s successive films in ‘Naan Avan Illai-2’, and ‘Vedigundu Murugesan’ were all moderate hits but none of them went on to become huge hits.

Says Jyotirmayi: “I came to Tamil films initially to dance for a single song in Saran’s ‘Idhaya Thirudan’. The love and affection of the people of Tamil Nadu has made me a heroine. Though I have done only a few films in Tamil, I have done all sorts of roles: glamour, comedy and sentiment.”

Talking about the flurry of newcomers from her State making their way to Tamil Nadu, Jo says that she herself was a newcomer some time back. Except for a few movies, most of the films have newcomers as heroines which eventually manage a good business at the box office as well.

“Starring in a hit movie provides one with a chance of starring in successive movies. Talented people can tide over their bad luck and come out successful, I feel. I can’t go on a signing spree and I know my age and my limits. I will act in only those roles which would suit me. There is nothing wrong for me to wait for a good film instead of acting in four films and increasing my bank balance and delivering nothing worth watching,” says Jo philosophically.
