MUMBAI: It seems as if Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor’s attempts to ridicule Ranbir Kapoor’s infidelity has not gone well with daddy Rishi Kapoor, who has now reverted in fury, saying that poking fun at his son “just shows their (Deepika and Sonam) class.”
It all started with KJo’s chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan’ featuring Bollywood hotties Deepika and Sonam. The actors, who were once supposed to be rivals, got along like a house on fire, smarting their way out of their ‘Saawariya’. Apparently, their remarks have not pleased Ranbir’s parents, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor who are upset with Karan to having instigated them to say bad words about Ranbir.
Although he did not see the show, Rishi Kapoor said, “We definitely feel cheated and hurt. My wife and sister are in New York and they were very upset when they heard about the show. Neetu was very hurt and upset and she spoke to Karan about it. We didn’t expect this from him because Karan happens to be a close friend but he instigated both the girls to say all those things!”
“We’ve done so much for Karan… We have gone twice on his show. We even gave bytes for the show featuring Imran and Ranbir out of pure love for Karan. In return, what does he do? Provoke guests on his show to get better TRPs? There’s no respect for relationships. He gets paid for the show while we do it for love and affection. Karan shouldn’t do this to us or all the Kapoors will severe ties with him and not work with him,” he added.
The veteran actor did not spare Deepika and Sonam either. “Well to put things in the right perspective, all I can say is that with both the girls it is a case of sour grapes. Instead of doing all this, they should concentrate on their careers. Why do you run shows that have so much gossip? I have done Koffee With Karan earlier with Neetu, my brothers and sister; there was great camaraderie and laughter on our show. We didn’t run anyone down. I don’t think you should encourage people to wash dirty linen in public. You will never see Ranbir running anyone down,” the protective father blurted.
“It just shows their (Deepika and Sonam) class. I would like to tell them to stop giggling all the time and instead grow up and behave maturely. They are there on the show because they are their father’s daughters and not because of their work! I would advise them to stop talking about their colleagues and running them down.”
And finally, Sonam’s star dad Anil Kapoor broke the silence and replied that Rishi needs to take it easy. “What’s said on that show is to be taken lightly and sportingly,” said the actor.
“In 33 years, actors, from Boman Irani and Ritesh Deshmukh to Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have made fun of my hair, face and dancing at award shows. I’ve never retaliated. These young people will hug, make-up and work again soon,” he said.
