Vidya Balan, the biopic specialist

MUMBAI: Vidya Balan, who debuted in Bollywood with a very docile and sober character in ‘Parineeta’, has become a favourite choice for the filmmakers these days when it comes to playing real-life character.

Vidya had recently played the character of Sabrina Lal, the elder sister of Delhi based Jessica Lal (who was murdered on April 29, 1999) in the movie ‘No One Killed Jessica’. The 32-year-old actress is also set to play the South actress Silk Smitha’s character in Milan Luthria directed film ‘A Dirty Picture’. Vidya will be playing the hot seductive actress Smitha, who acted in more than 200 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi.

Reports say that the actress has now got the offer to play the role of Bollywood icon Madhubala, who died of serious illness at 36.

Madhuri Dixit was considered to be the most likely actress to star in the role due to her resemblance with Madhubala and her dancing skills. But, Madhuri, at 43, is a tad too old to star in the role.

In 2009, there were plans to launch a film with director Shashanka Ghosh, about the real-life romance between Kishore Kumar and Madhubala. The director wanted to bring in Vidya Balan as Madhubala and Aamir Khan as the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. The project got shelved.
