India Sri Lanka ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

India will play against Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on Saturday 2nd April, 2011 at wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

India have played earlier in the finals of ICC World Cup against West Indies in 1983 and Australia in 2003. Indian has won the Cricket World Cup under Kapil Dev captaincy in 1983 against West Indies by 43 runs at Lords in London. India has lost the final of the ICC World Cup 2003 against Australia by 125 runs at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Sri Lanka also played earlier in the two finals of ICC World Cup against Australia in 1996 and 2007. Sri Lanka has won the World Cup in 1996 under Arjuna Ranatunga captaincy; they have defeated Australia by seven wickets. Sri Lanka has lost the 2007 ICC World Cup final match against Australia by 53 runs by Duckworth–Lewis method in West Indies.

It is sixth World Cup appearance for the India batsman Sachin Tendulkar since 1992. Indian captain MS Dhoni said that they want to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 for Sachin Tendulkar. However Sri Lanka also wants to win the World Cup for Legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan. Muttiah Muralitharan had announced his retirement from the all forms of cricket, after the World Cup.

India and Sri Lanka is going to play a tough battle for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in Mumbai. Muralitharan and Angelo Mathews are doubtful for the World Cup final due to injuries. Veteran fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and off spinner Suraj Randiv may join the team in the place of injured players. Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra has fractured his finger in the semi-final game against Pakistan and he was out of the World Cup final. R. Ashwin is likely to replace Ashish Nehra in the final eleven. Ashwin played very impressively in his last two games.
